Givat Haviva’s “Through Others’ Eyes”

July 2, 2018

The Puffin Cultural presents Through Others Eyes, a photography exhibition featuring works by Arab and Jewish Israeli teenagers. The exhibition is the final event of a larger program organized by Givat Haviva, a non-profit organization dedicated to integrating society in Israel. Arab and Jewish children rarely come into contact as they are separated by their communities and education systems. Givat Haviva brings together the two groups of students between the ages of 16 and 18 to meet over the course of 25 sessions to engage in dialogue and to study photography.

Givat Haviva, founded in 1949, is a nonprofit organization formed with the goal of creating a shared society in Israel. It is built upon the ideas of equality and cooperation. A recipient of the UNESCO prize for peace education, Givat Haviva creates programs that unite the Arab and Jewish communities of Israel. In addition to the Through Others’ Eyes project, Givat Haviva also hosts Children Teaching Children, a program in which Arab and Jewish children are paired with one another and engage in a year long program involving joint classes and experimental learning at the other’s schools. For over 50 years Givat Haviva has been using these programs to foster a coexistence between Arabs and Jews located in Israel.
