Sarah Seidman is the Puffin Foundation Gallery Curator of Social Activism at the Museum of the City of New York and the curator for the ongoing exhibition “Activist New York." Sarah takes a look back on the first Earth Day in New York City in 1970, and explores the environmental justice initiatives that followed in subsequent decades—from recycling and anti-pollution initiatives to community gardens and grassroots mobilizations around environmental health. Using this historical context, the talk will also touch on the relationship between the environment and the enormous challenges we face today.
