The Puffin Cultural Forum presents a photo exhibition which tells the story of the 1982 garment workers’ strike in Chinatown, when hundreds of worker volunteers signed up thousands of union members – most of them Chinese immigrant women – to protest with the Local 23-25 ILGWU in response to unfair treatment. “We Are One” was the rallying cry of 20,000 workers who walked off their jobs in protest, eventually forcing their employers to sign contracts with them that were equal to that of garment workers outside of Chinatown. The exhibition is curated by Rachel Bernstein and May Ying Chen of LaborArts, an organization dedicated to presenting powerful images to further the understanding of the past and present lives of working people.

The exhibition opening will feature presentations from Rachel Bernstein and May Ying Chen. Songs from the labor movement will be performed by John T. La Barbera and Dr. Andy Krikun. Light refreshments will be served outdoors if weather permits.

The exhibition will be on view from September 8th to November 30th. Gallery hours are from Tuesday to Friday, 11am to 4pm.
