Martin Wind’s Gravity Trio: “September” Album Release ft. Glenn Zaleski
Jazz Concert
Jazz bassist and longtime Teaneck resident Martin Wind celebrates the 30th anniversary of his move to the United States with the release of his new album September at the Puffin Cultural Forum. He will be joined by two exceptional German musicians: Peter Weniger on tenor saxophone and Jonas Burgwinkel on drums.
The trio’s debut album Gravity (2023, Laika Records) was celebrated internationally; the legendary Down Beat Magazine drew comparisons to Sonny Rollins’ legendary Way Out West.
Their special guest will be pianist Glenn Zaleski, who’s been one of the rising stars of the international jazz scene over the past years, playing with saxophonist Melissa Aldena and vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, among others.
Born in Flensburg, Germany, Martin Wind is among the most accomplished German jazz musicians working in the United States today. Known for his warm tone, lyrical phrasing, and stylistic breadth, Wind is equally active as a soloist, composer, and sought-after sideman. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Mstislav Rostropovich, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Ken Peplowski, Anat Cohen, Philip Catherine, Michael Brecker, Ann Hampton Callaway, and Sting, and has contributed to numerous film soundtracks including True Grit, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Gemini Man. As member of the Kennedy Center Honors Orchestra, he has also appeared with world stars Aretha Franklin, John Legend, James Taylor, Reneé Fleming, and Herbie Hancock. As leader and co-leader, Wind has released more than 30 albums, among them Turn Out the Stars – Music Written or Inspired by Bill Evans (2014), My Astorian Queen (2021), and New York Bass Quartet – Air (2022), which DB Magazine heralded as “a bass manifesto.” Wind has received numerous honors, including the Cultural Award of Schleswig-Holstein, the Cognac Hennessy/Blue Note Jazz Award, and a top placement at the 1995 Thelonious Monk Bass Competition in Washington, D.C.
