The piece utilizes creative borrowing from a multitude of different composers and gives the listener the feeling that the music is completely improvised. \nFollowing Jake Hart’s solo piano performance\, jazz guitarist John Hart will perform standards and original music with his trio\, featuring Bill Moring on bass and Andy Watson on drums. The evening’s program will feature selections from his latest album New Mantra\, released last year under SteepleChase Records. The project marks John’s 17th album as leader. \nJake Hart is a pianist and composer signed with Sunnyside Records\, which released his debut album Collage in 2024. The album received praise in Los Angeles Jazz Scene\, where Scott Yanow wrote about how “the two Parts sound spontaneous and bridge the gap between modern classical music and jazz.” In addition\, Jake has also participated in a multitude of international competitions and has performed at notable venues including Birdland Jazz Club\, Mezzrow and the Umbria Jazz Festival. \nA fixture on the New York music scene for 40 years\, John Hart has distinguished himself as a band leader with 17 CDs (including releases on such prestigious labels as Blue Note and Concord) as well as a first-call sideman to the stars\, including a sixteen-year tenure with organist Jack McDuff. Other associations include Lou Donaldson\, James Moody\, Jon Hendricks\, Jimmy Smith\, Brian Blade\, Chris Potter\, Larry Goldings\, Bob Belden\, Rick Margitza\, Javon Jackson and the Maria Schneider Orchestra. A prolific recording artist\, John has appeared on 100-plus CDs as a sideman. \nSuggested Donation: $10\nBUY TICKETS below\, OR call: 201-836-3499 (Must call before Thurs. 6/4 at 5PM) \nIf you cannot pay the suggested donation\, please call 201-836-3499 or email aortega@puffinfoundation.org to ask for free reservation(s). The show brings to life the uncompromising story of one of Hollywood’s most iconic stars. From headline-making romances with William Wyler and Howard Hughes to her infamous Oscar upset and fearless battles against the male-dominated studio system\, Davis’ story is one of  ambition and defiance. \nThis updated performance also highlights Davis’ role as a trailblazer in standing up to the studio system and helping pave the way for stronger protections and rights for artists. On-screen\, she portrayed complex\, unapologetic women; off-screen\, she fought for equal pay\, creative control\, and longevity in an industry that often denied women all three. \nBy turns humorous and deeply moving\, Bette Davis Ain’t for Sissies captures the enduring legacy of a woman who refused to be silenced. \nFasten your seatbelts—it’s going to be a bumpy ride. \n– \nSuggested Donation: $10\nBUY TICKETS below\, OR call: 201-836-3499 \nIf you cannot pay the suggested donation\, please call 201-836-3499 or email aortega@puffinfoundation.org to ask for free reservation(s). World-renowned percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Ronnie Burrage — joined by guitarist Yuto Kanazawa — weaves together live\, improvised music across genres with vivid personal stories drawn from his extraordinary life and upcoming memoir. Expect the unexpected: Burrage is a musician who composes in the moment\, sculpting soundscapes from scratch and drawing the audience into the living\, breathing act of creation. \nWith a discography spanning over 170 recordings and a career that has placed him alongside McCoy Tyner\, Sonny Rollins\, and Wayne Shorter\, Ronnie Burrage has spent decades at the forefront of jazz innovation. Recognized as one of the finest jazz musicians on the international scene\, he brings to Puffin something rarer than a performance — a conversation between a master artist\, his instrument\, and everyone in the room. \nSuggested Donation: $10\nBUY TICKETS below\, OR call: 201-836-3499 (Must call before Thurs. 7/16 at 5PM) \nIf you cannot pay the suggested donation\, please call 201-836-3499 or email aortega@puffinfoundation.org to ask for free reservation(s).
