The Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives (ALBA) announces that the 2026 ALBA/Puffin Award for Human Rights Activism will go to Bay Resistance & Unión del Barrio. One of the largest monetary awards for human rights in the world, the ALBA/Puffin Award is a $100,000 cash prize granted annually by ALBA and the Puffin Foundation to honor the nearly 3,000 Americans who volunteered in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) to fight fascism under the banner of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. The recipients will be honored in award ceremony in New York City on May 2. ALBA and The Puffin Foundation recognize the danger that current assaults on human and economic rights pose to vulnerable populations. Dear Friends: The Puffin Foundation, Puffin Cultural Forum, and Puffin Brooklyn will be closed from 1:00 PM on Wednesday 11/26 through Sunday 11/30. We hope that you will have a restorative holiday weekend and that those who are gathering with family, friends, and community will make memories to cherish. We acknowledge that for many Americans, Thanksgiving is the National Day of Mourning, a time to remember and recognize the genocide and land theft that Indigenous Americans have experienced, and continue to experience, as a result of settler colonialism. It is followed on 11/28 by National Native American Heritage Day, which you can learn about here. The Puffin Cultural Forum will reopen in December, with lots of exciting events planned! Take […]
