Singer, songwriter and activist Kristen Graves presents the ways music and songwriting can empower and support marginalized youth. In addition to a career as a touring musician, Kristen has worked extensively teaching songwriting to youth on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation in South Dakota, and in Oaxaca, Mexico. Kristen received her Master’s Degree in 2018 from New York University in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Ethnomusicolgy at the University of Toronto, focusing on music and sound in the everyday life of a Zapotec community that works in the Oaxaca city municipal garbage dump.
