Singer Audrey Martells performs songs recorded by some of the nation’s most influential black artists. Through song and narrative she explores the musical story of some of the top black recording artists of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s such as Nat King Cole as well as the lesser-known artists who never crossed over the lines of segregation. The program is curated by musical historian Arlene Corsano, author of “Thought We Were Writing the Blues: But They Called It Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Teaneck singer Audrey Martells has written songs for George Benson and Randy Crawford and recorded back-up vocals for Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Jewel, and Joan Osborne. Keyboardist Etienne Stadwijk will accompany.
